Mission’s Rose Hamilton and the sheep outside Jigsaw on King’s Road
This week prepare to go wool-crazy for British Wool Week!
The Campaign for Wool is a 5-year campaign launched by HRH The Prince of Wales to educate consumers about the benefits of wool and promote wool-predominant products to a national audience to help support and grow the wool industry. Run by a coalition of industry groups convened by HRH The Prince of Wales, The Campaign for Wool launched in October 2010 with Wool Week, which saw over 100 retailers in the UK celebrating wool with woollen window displays, knitting events and events which saw sheep popping up in the most unexpected places across the country.
The focal point for Wool Week this year will be a groundbreaking exhibition named ‘Wool Modern’ launching at La Galleria in London – a celebration of wool in the 21st century, which will run from the 8th-29th September.
Other highlights include a wool interiors installation at Design Centre Chelsea Harbor, sheep grazing outside various Jigsaw clothing stores in London, ‘knitting nancies’ and woollen characters stationed outside iconic department store Selfridges and a wool handbag designer collaboration at Harvey Nichols. Liberty will also celebrate wool with a design award ceremony in association with Rowan Yarns.
In addition to London-centric activity, John Lewis will run workshops from 24 stores and wool lovers up and down the UK are busy organising wool-focused events during Wool Week, via a new initiative named ‘Love Wool UK’, an exciting new promotion to encourage the public to engage in wool- focused activities launched by The Campaign for Wool and the British Wool Marketing Board.
From yarn bombing to knitting parties, the UK will be transformed into a woollen wonderland during Wool Week.
