Nokia Lumia Live Session: Glasgow

Nokia Lumia Live Session: Glasgow

Slow Club, a folk-rock duo last night (19.06.13) delivered a beautiful set fitting for Glasgow’s Britannia Panopticon, the world’s oldest music hall. The intimate session was the fourth event in Nokia’s Lumia Live Session series, and Slow Club retained the same standard of entertainment and engagement as the other sessions.

Founded in 1857 on the Trongate in Glasgow, Scotland, the Britannia has been one of the most reputable amusement destinations, and over the year has hosted  a variety of talent including the debut of a sixteen year old Stan Laurel in 1906. At the turn of the millennium, a team of dedicated volunteers started to restore the unique auditorium.

For those who don’t know, The Lumia Live Sessions is a tour that sees Nokia, Mission and music pioneers La Blogotheque (a team of vloggers recognised for helping to kick-start the careers of scores of musicians globally), team up to showcase hot new UK music talent at a series of free gigs in unusual settings across the UK.

Slow Club was supported by local band French Wives who set the scene for an evening of acoustic talent.

So far, the Lumia Live Sessions have seen soul sensation Lianne La Havas perform a beautiful acoustic set in a skatepark in Liverpool, electro-pop band Fenech-Soler play in a mixed martial arts venue and mercury nominated Ghostpoet entertained an intimate audience in a cemetery in Bristol.

Annie Kearney, Partner Manager Nokia UK said: “We were delighted to bring the Lumia Live Sessions to Glasgow. The Panopticon is an incredible venue, steeped in history, so it was great to see it brought to life by an amazing set from Slow Club.

“The Lumia Live Sessions are all about discovering new music and supporting local talent so it was great to have local band French Wives onboard too. We are looking forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.”
