Snowbombing Festival 2015
This April, Snowbombing festival celebrated its 16th year on the slopes in Mayrhofen, Austria. Widely known as ‘the greatest show on snow’, with an epic line-up and beautiful sunny weather, this year was no disappointment.
Thousands of festival-goers descended on the Alps for a weeklong celebration of dance music, snowboarding, skiing and mischief on the mountain. Skiing by day and partying by night, artists including Fatboy Slim, Rudimental, 2ManyDJ’s and MK played to packed out venues each night. Skrillex enjoyed himself so much at the festival; he proceeded to stay in the mountains for an extra three nights, playing sets to adoring fans wherever possible.
The everlasting charm of Snowbombing lies in its location. The festival consists of unique locations, which make each moment memorable. The Arctic Disco is an annual favourite and this year the likes of James Zabeila and Idris Elba played their tunes in the giant igloo at the top of the mountain. Partygoers were flitting between the igloo rave and the mountain peak, where they took a break to watch the magical sunset and warm up with a gluhwein. Another highlight included the Taken Party, in association with Hot Since ’82 where Snowbombers were blindfolded and whisked away to a secret rave in the backcountry of Mayrhofen.
Partying in the town is just one facet of Snowbombing festival. Regular Snowbombers know the importance of getting up the mountain each day to race down the runs with the likes of Eddie the Eagle and Mr Motivator. For the first time this year, Snowbombers could limber up with yoga, as Jo Youles taught her Snowga lessons on the mountain peak.
The final night finished on a high, as Rudimental headlined the festival at the famous forest party. Set between the trees in the charming forest, Rudimental played the likes of Waiting All Night and Free to a captivated crowd.
Sixteen years on, and Snowbombing festival is better than ever and gearing up for next year already. For more information visit http://www.snowbombing.com.
