Nokia Shorts 2011 Competition

March 25, 2011, by kaydine

Nokia has announced its search for the world’s best short film in partnership with online sharing site Vimeo.

Budding filmmakers will be tasked to create a short film on the Nokia N8 for a chance to win a prize of $10,000 and a screening at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Aspiring directors will be able to submit their idea for a short film at www.vimeo.com/nokia on a subject of their choice. Following a rigorous selection by a panel of judges, eight of the best submissions will be shortlisted for the semi-finals and their creators awarded a budget of 5,000 USD and two Nokia N8 smartphones to make their film. The winning film will be chosen by the panel of judges and will be screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June 2011.

The winner will also win a day behind-the-scenes with influential film-makers at the London Film Museum, starting the morning with its Founder, and producer, Jonathan Sands where they will learn about the fascinating history of film – from Chaplin to Hitchcock, Harryhausen and George Lucas. They will become inspired by some of the greatest film makers of all time, learning rudimentary techniques from some of the grandfathers of film making and re-live movie history on the replica Star Wars Tantive IV set. In the afternoon, the winner will also spend time with director Bob Keen, award-winning special effects guru who has lead productions for classics such as Aliens, Hellraiser and Dog Soldiers. Nokia Shorts 2011 promises it will be a day to remember.
